Hue Lab Art Education Curriculum
A Curriculum Designed Around Your Child
At Hue Lab, grade level guides how we engage a student, while assessment helps us understand where their artistic learning should begin.
Our Grades K–2, 3–5, and 6–8 classes are designed around how students at different developmental stages observe, think, engage, and create. But grade level does not define artistic ability.
Every new student can begin with a complimentary Art Assessment. We look at their current foundations, strengths, experience, and areas for growth, then tailor the focus, challenge, and guidance within the appropriate grade group.
Understand where they are. Discover where they can go.
Classes by Grade
Different Ways to Engage, One Continuous Growth
The same grade doesn’t mean the same starting point. Within each group, instruction and challenge are adapted to the individual student.
Grades K-2
Wonder, Play & Discovery
Learning begins with curiosity. Through stories, observation, materials, and hands-on exploration, young artists discover how much there is to see, imagine, and create.
What you learn
Nature · Self & Family · Animals · Stories & Traditions · Line & Shape · Color · Pattern · Texture · Painting · Collage · Sculpture & Mixed Media
Grades 3-5
Skills, Choices & Possibilities
As students become ready for greater challenge, learning becomes more structured while leaving room for experimentation. Students deepen artistic skills, explore broader ideas and media, and make increasingly intentional creative choices.

How You Learn
More Than Following Steps
A Hue Lab class doesn’t begin with “Copy what I draw.” It begins with something worth looking at, a question worth exploring, and an idea worth developing.
Look & Question
Observe before making. Look closely at artworks and the world around us. Notice, question, discuss, and develop ideas.
Learn & Practice
Build real artistic skills. Learn drawing, color, form, composition, space, materials, and techniques that make more ideas possible.
Experiment & Create
Use what you learn to make choices of your own. Experiment, solve problems, revise, and create. The same lesson may lead to very different artworks—and that is intentional.
Reflect & Share
Understand your own creative process. Talk about your work, explain your choices, listen to feedback, and consider what to explore next.
Art Growth Profile
Growth Beyond the Finished Artwork
A finished artwork is only part of the story.
At Hue Lab, we look beyond the final piece to understand how each student is growing as an artist.
We look at how each student grows across six areas of artistic development:
Observe
Aesthetic Awareness
Think
Inquiry & Interpretation
Imagine
Creative Thinking
Make
Technical Fluency
Express
Artistic Expression
Connect
Cultural Understanding
Together, these six dimensions help us understand each student’s developing strengths and identify meaningful next steps.
Our goal is not to rank students or compare them with one another, but to make artistic growth visible over time.
